Before being nominated, I hadn’t heard of the Liebster award. I most certainly thought it’s too early in the game for my blog to be nominated for an award. LOL! So I had to go over to the official rules to find out exactly what this award was. Please go here to review the guidelines for the award.
With that being said, I’d like to thank Chaotic Goddess for nominating me. I am really honored that she chose me to receive this award. Please show Chaotic Goddess some love by visiting her blog and follow her on twitter at @ChaoticGoddess.
My favorite bloggers right now are Heather and Pete Reese of It’s a Lovely Life. Their blog is an inspiration. They have become my mentors through their Free 5 Day Email Crash Course and their VIP Blogging Fast Track course. I’ve learned so much about blogging and working my way towards monetizing my blog. If you’re interested in the Free 5 Day Email Crash Course, click on the course name.
Here are the questions I have to answer as part of being nominated:
1. WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE IS YOUR GREATEST FAULT? YOUR GREATEST STRENGTH?
My greatest fault is wanting to always be a perfectionist. This can keep me spinning my wheels until I have successfully resolved the situation. My greatest strength is my ability to think things through. I like to plan from beginning to end, trying to see anything that can go wrong and make contingency plans.
2. WHERE IS YOUR “SAFE SPACE”?
My safe place is my family. When I am in my feelings, I can trust that my boyfriend and children will hold me up and give me the strength I need to go on.
3. WHAT DID YOU WANT TO GROW UP TO BE WHEN YOU WERE LITTLE? WHAT DO YOU WANT TO BE (OR WHAT ARE YOU) NOW?
When I was little, I wanted to be a doctor. When I was in middle school, I performed CPR on someone who had stopped breathing. From then on I wanted to become a doctor until high school. I took an accounting class and fell in love with numbers. My ultimate goal was to become a forensic accountant but now I’d love to be a cyber security analyst.
4. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE POST ON YOUR BLOG?
My favorite post on my blog is the blog about my son’s birthday http://www.onlygirlinthehouse.com/happy-birthday-angel/. I honor my angel son with celebrating his birthday every year. I choose to reflect on the goodness of his short life rather than the loss of his life.
5. NAME AN INSECURITY YOU HAVE. HOW ARE YOU WORKING ON IT?
I’ve come to accept myself as I am. I’m overweight, dark-skinned, and beautiful. Being overweight and my skin color has been my insecurities in the past. But I’ve chosen to love me for me. As my cousin’s song says, “I was made in God’s image / a reflection of God’s love.” Anything made in God’s image is beautiful.
6. DESCRIBE A DAILY RITUAL YOU ENGAGE IN (BEAUTY ROUTINE, MEDITATIVE PRACTICE, EXERCISE, ETC).
Up until 2 weeks ago, I’ve been walking 2 miles 3-4 days a week. I can truly say this has helped me. I have noticed changes in my breathing and overall physical health.
7. WHO ARE YOU WRITING YOUR BLOG FOR?
I’m writing my blog for myself. I’ve always wanted to write. I’ve even wanted to write a children’s book. Through my blog, I hope to inspire someone along the way.
8. HOW DO YOU REACT TO FAILURE? SUCCESS?
Whether a failure or success, I try to find the underlying lessons to be learned. Recently, I was passed over for a job promotion. I really thought I was going to get this position. Instead of allowing this to defeat me, I examined myself to see what I needed to do to improve my chances for the next time.
9. WHAT IS THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’VE EVER RECEIVED?
Don’t ever allow someone else to define you. You are capable of making your own decisions and charting your own course. Believe in yourself.
10. DESCRIBE THE LAST DREAM YOU CAN REMEMBER.
The last dream I had I won the lottery. I gave my church 10% and they were able to do great things. I also hired a nanny to go with my family as we traveled the world.
11. WHAT DO YOU LOVE?
Ask anyone and they will tell you I love my boys. All three of them. I am so proud of my older son who serves in the Air Force. My younger two sons make my life worth living. I enjoy the memories we make every day.
